 Michael P. Aitken Michael P. Aitken, SHRM director of Government Affairs, has responsibility for tracking and reporting on legislative and regulatory developments in Washington and lobbying Congress on behalf of SHRM and the HR profession. He will provide a Federal Public Policy Update with timely information on both pending and anticipated legislative, regulatory and judicial activity that may affect your daily business.
Roberta S. Hayashi has over twenty-five years experience representing and advising Silicon Valley employers in employment and business litigation. She has trial experience in wrongful termination, discrimination, and misappropriation of trade secrets and proprietary information actions in both state and federal court. In June 2003, she was named one of the "Top 50 Women Litigators" in California by The Daily Journal, and named as a 2009 Woman of Influence by the Silicon Valley/San Jose Business Journal. She was also named the 2009 Professional Lawyer of the Year by the Santa Clara County Bar Association. She is a frequent speaker on employment law and legal ethics. She is a faculty member at Lincoln Law School on employment law, past president of the Santa Clara County Bar Association and the Law Foundation of Silicon Valley, and a member of the Santa Clara County Superior Court, Alternative Dispute Resolution Committee and Bench/Bar/Media/Police Committee.
Bob Nelson, PhD, is a leading expert on employee motivation and engagement and president of Nelson Motivation Inc. (www.nelson-motivation.com), a management training and consulting company located in San Diego, California. He has worked with 4/5s of the Fortune 500 companies to help improve their strategies, systems and programs for better motivating employees to achieve exceptional performance and is a multi-million-copy best-selling author of multiple books including 1001 Ways to Reward Employees (now in its 55th printing). He holds an MBA in organizational behavior from UC Berkeley and received his PhD in management from The Peter F. Drucker Graduate Management School at Claremont Graduate University in Los Angeles. 
Kate Wilson specializes in providing advice and counsel to companies on a variety of employment matters and represents clients in business and employment litigation. She assists clients in drafting personnel policies, employee handbooks, and agreements governing employment issues from hiring to termination; represents companies at administrative hearings, fact-finding conferences, and settlement conferences; and provides training in workforce sexual harassment, discrimination and retaliation. Prior to attending law school, Ms. Wilson worked in employee relations with a large national retailer where she represented the company at administrative proceedings and investigated and responded to administrative charges nationwide before numerous state agencies and various regional Equal Employment Opportunity Commission offices.
