Nebraska Members Host Breakfast for Senator Ben Nelson
10/30/2009

On August 19, members of the Human Resource Association of the Midlands (HRAM) chapter of SHRM in Nebraska hosted Senator Ben Nelson (D-NE) for breakfast during a
Day Inside the District (DITD) event in Omaha.

Senator Ben Nelson (D-NE)

Nelson is a moderate, swing-vote Democrat in the U.S. Senate who will play a critical role in the Senate’s deliberation over HR-related policy issues.

During his meeting with the group of 30 senior SHRM members representing Omaha’s top businesses, Senator Nelson discussed a host of workplace issues ranging from health care reform, the Employee Free Choice Act, and E-Verify and the role HR professionals will play in the employee verification process.

At the conclusion of the event, Virginia Kiviranta, PHR, the volunteer co-chair of HRAM’s Government Affairs Committee, said, “This dialogue gave the Human Resource professionals the Senator’s perspective on important newsworthy events.  This made the attendees feel energized, empowered, and reassured that some of this legislation would not pass in its current state.  This event was truly successful and we look forward to repeating it next year.”
