Our local advocacy initiative — the 'A Team' — is getting ready to roll. The first in a series of information/training sessions was held Aug. 31 in Orlando, in conjunction with the HR Florida 2010 Conference. Other sessions have been held Sept. 9 in Brewer, Maine, and Sept. 14 in Saratoga Springs, New York.
Maine State Council Director David Pease in Brewer.
The SHRM Advocacy Team initiative is a five-year effort to build an effective grassroots network of SHRM members who can help promote HR’s interests in Washington and in their own state governments. This calls for a key contact or “District Captain” to be named in each of the 435 congressional districts between 2010 and 2014.
Our target states for 2010 are Alabama, Arkansas, California, Florida, Kansas, Maine, Nebraska, New York, Rhode Island, Washington, and Wisconsin. Ten more states will be targeted in 2011.
The 90-minute training session (which has been awarded one hour of strategic credit by the HR Certification Institute) acquaints team members with the goals of the initiative, as well as the duties and responsibilities of District Captains. Other sessions scheduled for 2010 include:
If you’re interested in attending one of these events, please click on the session location to register. We’re still planning sessions in the remaining target states before the end of the year.
