Your elected officials want to spend their vacation with you! Now that Congress has adjourned for the August recess, this is the perfect time to reach out to your elected officials -- especially to U.S. senators and representatives who are home in their respective districts through Labor Day.
Your elected officials are home to see you, the HR professional and -- perhaps even more importantly -- you, the voter. August recess is commonly known as the "district work period" for Members of Congress, so don't be surprised to see your senator or representative marching in parades, attending county fairs, or holding town hall meetings in your community. August offers a unique opportunity to share your views. Your presence at meetings and events sends a powerful message to elected officials and demonstrates your commitment to issues that are critical to the HR profession. Town hall discussions, ice cream socials, listening sessions and other local activities are the ideal forum for you and fellow HR professionals to share your expertise, exercise your voice and ultimately advance the HR profession!
Remember: It's a competitive, participatory democracy. It's up to each of us to make our voice heard.
